When Courtney isn’t looking under tables at a new restaurant to find out where they are from, she is out with her family hiking, snowboarding or camping. Inspiration finds her seemingly everywhere, but then again, how could it not? She’s been everywhere. Moving around a lot throughout her life exposed Courtney to the new perspectives and influenced the way she interacts with the world. Her ability to form new connections with anyone she meets allows her to create deep influences with the design storylines she weaves into projects. At The Society she is known as the Cultivator of Whimsy, Courtney injects whimsical, ‘WTF’ moments into the spaces she designs.
1.How/why did you become involved in NEWH NW? My passion for the Design industry has brought me to this organization. My compassion for my design clients, encourages me to be more involved and give back.
2.What are some of your favorite hotels, restaurants, and spaces in the Pacific Northwest? There are so many fabulous places in the northwest, where do I begin? I would have to say, one of my favorite places is this private Bed and Breakfast in Leavenworth,WA. A tranquil town, which reminds me of my travels around Europe.
3.If you could check into any hotel in the world, what would it be? And why? Katslauttan Artic Resort, glass igloos in Finland so I could view the Northern Lights. They are so magical and this place would be unforgettable
4. Tell us about your personal/professional background. My educational background is in biochemistry, however I hold 2 bachelor’s of science degrees from Oregon State University. One in Interior Design, the Second in Housing Studies, which encompasses real estate, construction and urban development.
First and foremost, I believe creating impactful designed spaces is a team sport. One of the seemingly rare people born in Washington State who lives here, I’m always on the lookout for creative outlets including landscape photography and any crafting opportunities. More solar powered than caffeine energized, much of my solo travel and hiking takes me to sunny spots, but don’t ask me to leave the gorgeous PNW in summer!

Jennifer has over 12 years of experience leading the interior design of three very cohesive markets – hospitality, senior housing, and healthcare. The relationship between these three allows her to seamlessly integrate cues and elements from each, to design interiors to suit the ever-changing needs of today’s patient, resident or guest. Her focus in these markets has built a deep understanding of how users move through interior spaces and how design can influence their experiences. In 2016, Jennifer became the first woman owner at Rice Fergus Miller and will be an integral leader in the next generation of RFM. Jennifer leads our Interior Design practice, oversees Talent Management for the firm and has a strong personal commitment to helping students and that plays out in her life in many ways from mentoring local high school students, serving our design community through a number of non-profit organizations and giving back her time, talent and treasure to Washington State University as a member of the School of Design and Construction Advisory Board.
